Time to wrap it up!

I can undoubtedly say it's all about layering this season. Stores are filled with various oversize sweaters, from cuddly knit cardigans to those resembling potato bags. To be perfectly honest, it has been my obsession for some time now. Having hit a couple of boutiques, I came to notice that the cardigans which were worth paying attention to were usually the ones I would have to splash out on.

Thrifty as I am, I decided to give it a try on the Internet. Even though I think nothing can replace going through the clothing racks and putting on pieces of clothing, I have recently begun to resort to e-shopping. There are no big retailers in my town and I had to satisfy my fashionista needs somehow, so at some point it has become an every-day reality for me. At times, you can find some real bargains or unique clothes.

These are my recent finds:

1. A camel poncho from H&M, as seen here:

2. A cuddly knit cardigan from H&M.

I am now ready to wrap myself up in my latest finds and spend cold weekends snuggled up on the sofa watching some of my favourite movies or documentaries.

I'm also slowly getting myself in the Christmas spirit. Can't wait to start listening to my favourite Christmas songs on repeat, decorate our Christmas tree and run around the stores in search of presents for my friends! Can you? What part are you looking forward to the most?

xoxo, Dominika.

I am a STYLEpreneur!

My friend has recently come across a site called StyleOwner and forwarded it to me, bearing in mind that I'm keen on fashion issues. To be perfectly honest, it immediately caught my eye. The idea behind this site is to allow selected fashionistas to open their own online stores in cooperation with the StyleOwner team and promote social selling. Without a shadow of a doubt, I applied, even though I didn't set my hopes too high.

You can only imagine how delighted I was when after a hard day at school, on opening my inbox this e-mail was waiting for me.

Greetings!

Congratulations- you've been selected to be one of our very first store owners in our private beta launch. StyleOwner is proud to combine the power of social networking, e-commerce and fashion to offer you a new online business opportunity.

I got round to setting up my new store as soon as I read the last line of their message. Beginning from scratch is never easy-peasy, but with a plenty of excitement it was a pure pleasure for me. I was given a list of designers, posh stores and their clothing to choose from and I let the fun begin. Having finished a couple of hours later, all that was left to do was wait for the confirmation.

Greetings Dominika,

It's official- you are now a STYLEpreneur! Thank you for setting up shop (literally!) and becoming part of our exclusive community.

STYLEpreneur Status: We bet you've always been a trendsetter. Your reputation as an innovator will continue to grow as you pioneer the exciting new frontier of social shopping. In fact, now you can add STYLEpreneur to your resume (STYLEpreneur: An aspiring businessperson who possesses great style and a love of fashion).

I have taken on a new experience, which is certainly enriching, inspiring and means a lot to me as an aspiring fashionista. I DO realize some of those prices are slightly exorbitant, but I have no control over this aspect. If you happen to know anyone, who would be interested in purchasing those things anyway, I proudly present my new store:

I will probably be adding new items to the store soon, so stay tuned.

Much love,
Dominika.

MTV EMAs 2011

This year's MTV Europe Music Awards were held in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The event took place at the Odyssey Arena on November 6 and was hosted by the amazing young starlet, Selena Marie Gomez. Due to a number of dazzling outfits, impressive performances and some unexpected nudity on stage, it was certainly a night to remember.

My favourite EMA moments:
* short videos with Selena Gomez as a hostess played in the meantime
* a male streaker interrupting Hayden Panettiere's speech
* the Amy Winehouse tribute
* Selena Gomez & The Scene performing 'Hit the lights'
* Adam Lambert performing with Queen as a closing act (this one sent chills down my spine!)

Anyway, as this is a fashion blog, I am now, as usual, going to present my favourite looks of the night. Sit back, relax and enjoy the show.

Hayden Panettiere stepped out on the pink carpet wearing a black and white patterned mini dress from Tibi's Autumn/Winter 2011 collection. She teamed it with a pair of Christian Louboutin peep-toe heels, showing off her amazingly tanned legs. I really am in favour of her outfit, as it's the essence of femininity and the natural hairdo suits Hayden very well.

Bar Refaeli was lighting up the pink carpet in a Replay gown made specifically for her and wonderful black stilettos. What needs to be born in mind is the fact that no matter how beautiful, this dress shape is appropriate only for people with long, slim legs. It goes without saying that Bar has the body to rock this outfit, though.

Ashley Rickards, the star of MTV's Awkward, went for a metallic cocktail dress paired with matching heels. As she's a petite girl, the cut outs on the sides added more glam to her overall look.

That's where we get to my favourite part- the hostess. Selena Gomez stayed true to Katy Perry's advice that a good host should have a number of outfit changes and left us enchanted with her clothing throughout the whole event.

The first outfit Selena rocked at the EMAs was a lace Marchesa dress with ruffle skirt (the same as seen on Blake Lively, look here). She finished the look with a pair of embellished Neiman Marcus peep-toes and a clutch. I have already expressed my admiration for this dress while posting a picture of Blake. Those of you, who read all of my posts, know that it was love at first sight... and it still lasts.

At the very beginning, Selena appeared on stage in a ring of fire. I can risk a statement that her wonderful maxi dress with leather top kept the fire on. Having accessorized it with a black necklace, the Texan beauty looked absolutely stunning.

The next outfit change gave Selena a more youthful look. This time she went for a fruit print Moschino dress and updated it with a pair of Luisa Via Roma stilettos. What can I say... a pretty person looks pretty in virtually everything. And I can assure you that all eyes were on her.

Have you seen this year's EMAs? If so, which moments did you like the most? Which outfits were your favourite ones?

Take care,
xoxo Dominika.

Saturday Shopping

Having taken into consideration that winter is almost on the way, I decided to hit a few stores this Saturday. Frankly speaking, I'm not too enthusiastic about this time of the year since I'm obsessed with all kinds of dresses. I am simply the worst at dressing for cold weather, I treat having to wear pants as a sort of torture... I have been procrastinating for a long time, but I gave it a try & went shopping for warm/cuddly clothes once again.

However, it would certainly be too good to be true if I came back with a bunch of sweaters only... I got hold of a polka dot dress which needs to be tailored, a couple of tops AND, ladies and gentlemen, a lovely cardigan in my favourite beige colour. Here are the pictures of some of my recent finds...

A lace top- H&M (Conscious Collection)

A tie-front beige cardigan- H&M
A floral top- Primark

Plus, on a Saturday evening my mom was in the mood for cleaning out her closet to make room for some new stuff... Having heard that she wasn't going to wear this lovely winter jacket with fur, I gladly snagged it and put in my wardrobe.

What do you think about those pieces of clothing? How is your fall/winter shopping going? Have you recently bought anything interesting? Feel free to drop me a line!

By the way, you can see a poll on the right. I would appreciate it if you could take a moment to vote for the next Modern Fashion Icon.... Thank you all in advance!

xoxo, Dominika.
