Standing at almost 5’11”, Anja Rubik certainly possesses precisely the sort of towering demeanor one generally associates with a professional model -- yet there’s little doubt that she’s also as cute and approachable as the proverbial girl next door. Having kicked off her career in 2000, Anja Rubik has managed to surpass some of her fashion heroes to become an indelible force within the industry. Her sultry yet girl-next-door looks have endeared her to such legendary figures as John Galliano, Donna Karan and Ralph Lauren, while there’s little doubt that she’s become a seemingly permanent fixture in fashion publications and on catwalks the world over. Anja Rubik has been placed at the center of a handful of major ad campaigns, with her work for names like Guy LaRoche and Tommy Hilfiger inching her steps closer to the worldwide fame of her heroes.

Anja Rubik was born on June 12, 1985, in Czestochowa, Poland. Anja Rubik spent the majority of her childhood moving from country to country, with her family, at one time or another, calling Canada, South Africa and Greece home. Anja Rubik’s childhood dreams of becoming a model were fulfilled after she entered a local contest in 2000, and ultimately walked away with a contract from a Parisian modeling agency. Later that year, Anja Rubik made her professional debut with a series of appearances on the catwalk for such esteemed labels as Givenchy and Nina Ricci.

Unlike the majority of her modeling colleagues, however, Anja Rubik -- in an effort to complete her schooling -- relegated modeling gigs to her days off and holidays. Her educational endeavors completed, Anja Rubik took her first steps towards devoting herself full-time to a career within the fashion industry by moving to New York City in 2002. She had only been there for a few short months when Burberry, Stella McCartney, and Jil Sander enlisted her to walk their fall shows in Milan and Paris, and there’s little doubt that her career received a significant boost after Style.com named her one of 2005’s Top Ten Models (alongside Hye Park and Marina Peres).

Anja Rubik’s burgeoning status within the industry resulted in her being named the new faces of Emporio Armani, Jimmy Choo and Emanuel Ungaro, and she could soon be found within the pages of such esteemed fashion mags as Vogue, Elle and Harper’s Bazaar. Though far from a household name, Anja Rubik had reached a place where she was receiving more offers than she could possibly fulfill, which essentially forced her to become more choosy and discriminating in terms of accepting work.

Nevertheless, Anja Rubik’s profile continued to rise as the months progressed, with 2006 being a particularly lucrative year for the model. In addition to signing with Estee Lauder, Anja Rubik also shot a spot for Dolce & Gabbana, opened Valentino’s spring show and graced the cover of international fashion magazine Numero. 2007 proved to be just as busy for Anja Rubik, as she kicked off the year and signed a fragrance contract with Estee Lauder Beautiful as well as became a fixture on the catwalk and within the pages of high-profile magazines.

Along with Clemence Poesy and Chloe Sevigny, Anja Rubik was, in 2008, named the face of a new fragrance simply entitled Chloe. That same year, Anja Rubik was featured alongside Raquel Zimmerman and Hilary Rhoda in a photo spread for V Magazine entitled “Blonde Ambition.”

When it was released this past weekend that Anja would be wearing an Anthony Vaccarello dress, I was expecting controversy, a lot of skin showing, and a good photo opportunity. Last night, all my expectations were met. Personally, I am obsessed with that dress! How can one not be?!!

While several celebrities and models have showed off slits on the red carpet, no one has flashed this much leg and hip until now. In less than 12 hours, Anja’s dress has made headline news around the world from ABC News to International Business Times to Huff Post to The Telegraph to Daily Mail to TMZ to NY Daily News to Celebuzz. It is the most talked about dress of the evening. Much of the rhetoric have mocked and criticized Anja’s hipbone. In my opinion, press is press, good or bad. In a world where the current generation of models will never have the chance to become supermodels and celebrities are fronting covers of fashion magazines, models are nowhere as important as actresses because they do not get an enormous kind of reaching press.

But furthermore, here’s my personal takes and things I have never said on this blog until now…

I love how daring the dress was. It takes a woman with a lot of confidence and presence to wear it publicly for 6 hours or so. I feel Anja gave the dress justice in her own way and carried herself well. While she may not be one of my top personal favorites because I personally feel her body type is wrong for Victoria’s Secret and is not what women and young girls should aspire for, I always have had a pleasure photographing Anja whether it is fashion week or not because she is very genuinely gracious. While many models would run away from photographers and paparazzi, Anja always would make some time. She is also one of those models I am sure is great to work with because she isn’t afraid of anything, including standing outside for the camera in the cold rain in the presence lightning and thunder. For that, she wins me over. There is something about fearless models/women that is so attractive to me.

I also agree with commentaries on how scary thin and bony Anja looked, but she did looked healthier last night compare to some other previous points in her life as a model. In interviews, she has mentioned many time that she leads a healthy life and does eat but her body chemistry does not work like the average person. I never thought I would defend Anja, but I guess I am doing it right now.

However, I am never shortsighted… I have had conversation with many younger and newer models in the industry who feel intimidated and scared of Anja’s body because they feel they will always be compared to such a standard while their bodies are evolving and growing as women.

I’m not the kind of gal who is afraid of bodies – I don’t have any judgment for women who choose to show, or hide, theirs. But when you’re supermodel Anja Rubik, is this really what you want the world to see?

Is there any decorum left ?

Some might call it progressive fashion forward, others might just call it a tad excessive and lacking in any tact or grace. Others on the other hand might just call it another day at work for a pair of conniving media whores. Which brings us to the introduction of designer Anthony Vaccarello (who? that what I thought too) and his newcomer muse, Victoria’s Secret model, Anja Rubik.

As she entered the pony show express that the Met Gala is so devoutly known for the hawt bixch apparently gave the camera boy and the fashion cognoscenti at large more than what they had bargained for with the slit of the side of her dress going beyond what had ever been dared in the presence of a mild May afternoon at the Met. Then again who cares what the Met thinks anyway…?

Normally the brouha would be cause for celebration, but I swear I could hear Anna Wintour pant and whine as she rolled her eyes over that side of the tent to see herself being upstaged by the 28 year old model who for some reason had mistaken actress Angelina Jolie’s jutting slit thigh at this year’s Academy Awards as permission to showcase her own scrawny bony hip bone. Never mine, the scrawny bixch made the world realize why she’s a supermodel and why wearing underwear is certainly for amateurs.

But there was more too. Not only was there a gaping hole where the hip and pelvis bone connected there was a gaping hole that went diagonally across Anna Wintour’s eye shaft, criss crossing in her venom bone before gently exiting down the slip of her stomach to the abyss before puking itself out in the lady’s restroom.

Never mind, isn’t it time you worked yourself to starvation so you too could show off your jutting collarbone, hip bone, pelvis bone and of course be the envy of the fashion world? Tall scare crows with high cheekbones and Eastern European surnames are primarily preferred….

Then again maybe it’s all them overweight slobs who are chomping at the bit in outright jealousy?

The brightest stars of the Met Ball 2012

The annual Met Ball celebrates the opening of the Metropolitan Museum's fashion exhibit at the Costume Institute. Many celebrities have been spotted lighting up the red carpet in their finest creations, therefore making it hard for people to get their eyes off them even for a second. What I have prepared for you is the list of my 10 favourite looks of the night. Let the show begin!

#10 Sarah Jessica Parker stepped out on the red carpet wearing a floral Valentino gown from the spring/summer 2012 couture collection paired with matching shoes. I am crazy about floral print and for whatever reason this photo conjures up the image of a princess in my head. I love how she updated the look with gold cuffs.

#9 Anja Rubik went for a white gown with cutouts by Anthony Vaccarello and paired it with a Kotur clutch. Even I was surprised to see that this outfit made it to my top 10 list. If another celebrity turned up at the event wearing this piece, I would probably disregard their choice calling it too daring or even cheap. Even though Anja is undoubtedly too skinny, she can turn the ugliest pieces into something eye-catching.

#8 Sofia Vergara looked ladylike in a silver embellished Marchesa gown, showing off her wonderful body. What deserves appreciation is the fact that she didn't overkill with accessories and decided to finish off her look with silver earrings, bangles and a natural hairstyle.

#7 Lana Del Rey hit the red carpet wearing a silver sequined Joseph Altuzarra gown with a black cape around her shoulders. Her outfit is the combination of a vampire princess and Little Red Riding Hood gone bad. The designer himself exclaimed that it's 'the embodiment of her music' and I have to say there is something really enigmatic about this look.

#6 Cate Blanchett kicked off the night in an Alexander McQueen autumn/winter 2012/13 black feathered gown. I love how the feathers make a seemingly simple dress stand out. If anyone claims that black has to be boring, then they clearly haven't seen this creation. You can never go wrong with this versatile colour and Cate is living proof.

#5 Heidi Klum is one of the people who never cease to amaze me- having given birth to 4 children and gotten closer to the magical 40, she still has an enviable figure and looks stunning whenever she is spotted in public. This time she went for a gunmetal grey lace gown by Escada and had 'classy' written all over her.

#4 Emma Stone sparkled in a red satin dress with embroidered flowers made by Alber Elbaz for Lanvin, paired with crystal hair pins and black leather pumps. I believe that the dress goes along really nicely with her petite figure and pale complexion, making Emma look absolutely endearing.

#3 Dianna Agron stunned on the red carpet in her Carolina Herrera gown teamed with 19th century sapphire ring set by Fred Leighton, Sergio Rossi heels and a Judith Leiber clutch. She added a dose of feminine whimsy with her romantic smokey eye make-up and soft retro waves.

#2 Jourdan Dunn (on the right, the photo was taken before the event) was gracing the red carpet in her floor-length Burberry Prorsum gown. She complemented her darling look with a matching clutch. Dear Jourdan, if you feel like you don't need the gown after last night's event, you know where to find me- my closet would give it an exceptionally warm welcome. Just saying.

#1 And the winner is... ladies and gentlemen, Scarlett Johansson. She brought the glamour in a figure-flattering Dolce & Gabbana gown with full tulle skirt and Fred Leighton jewels. The dress looks as if it was made specifically for her- she was showing off her amazing curves to perfection and turning heads throughout the whole event.
