Burberry Body

A British fashion house, Burberry has recently launched a new fragrance called Burberry Body in about 150 countries all over the world. Known for a number of intelligent campaigns, this time they went to great lengths to advertise their brand new product. Having read on their Facebook page that it's 'a warm and feminine fragrance with an eclectic combination of sensual ingredients', I requested a sample without a shadow of a doubt. After about two weeks of getting no response, I finally came to terms with the fact I wasn't probably going to receive it at all... And that's when an unexpected message popped up in my inbox:

'Thank you for requesting your Burberry Body sample via Facebook. Due to overwhelming demand we have been unable to ship some of the requested samples within the suggested timeframe. We are pleased to inform you your sample is now on its way. (...) We hope you enjoy your Burberry Body and look forward to your feedback.'

I am more than pleased to say they definitely are the men of their words. When I got home from my private English class yesterday afternoon, that's what was waiting for me patiently in my bedroom....

Was it worth the wait? To be perfectly honest, I have mixed feelings about this one. The scent notes were described as 'a luxury chypre – fruity composition that begins with notes of fresh green absinthe, peach and freesia. Roses and iris are in the heart, leaning on the base of sandalwood, cashmerean, musk, amber and vanilla.' Tempting as it may sound, in my case it wasn't love at first sniff. It's a bit too strong for my taste, as I usually go for sweeter fragrances. There's one thing we can all agree on, though- they managed to capture luxury in a tiny vial.

Have you had the chance to test this perfume? If not, the best thing I can possibly recommend is to give it a try and place your request by liking Burberry's Facebook page.

Happy sampling, people! Looking forward to hearing your opinions,
xoxo Dominika.

Modern fashion icons: Blake Lively

Blake Lively is an American actress and model, mostly known for her role as Serena van der Woodsen, the 'it girl' of the Upper East Side on 'Gossip Girl'. Due to growing popularity of the show and her remarkable sense of style, she joined the group of people who are being sent designer clothes to wear to public events. Her beauty must have enchanted one of the most famous designers in the world, Karl Lagerfeld, as Blake was the first American girl to be offered to become a Chanel ambassador.

Blake attended the WonderCon in San Francisco wearing an open-front Carven dress from the Spring 2011 collection. She combined the puffy skirt with a white bustier top, drawing attention to her neckline and impressively long legs. What really added to her seemingly simple look was a pair of ankle strap Christian Louboutin pumps.

In June, she appeared on 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno' to promote her new movie, 'Green Lantern'. This time she went for a gold shimmering Missoni dress. She mixed it with a white vest top and fabulous Christian Louboutin sandals, which gave her a fresh and stylish look.

Ever since I spotted this look in a fashion magazine, I can't get over how gorgeous this red Marchesa dress is. Lace details go along perfectly with open back and a ruffle skirt. Having taken a closer look at some more pictures, I noticed that her Brian Atwood platform pumps were slightly too big for her, but who cares- if I was offered to wear these lovelies, I would take them regardless of the size.

The outfit Blake rocked during the premiere of 'Sherlock Holmes' in New York sparked off a lot of controversy. She stepped out in a strapless lace Dolce & Gabbana minidress paired with gold Christian Louboutin pumps. According to some people, she showed off way too much. To be perfectly honest, I was enchanted when I first saw this outfit. She has an amazing body and pulls it off in style, I don't see any reason why she should hide behind baggy dresses. Do you?

Blake Lively and Chace Crawford dressed up in 1920s era clothing while filming party scenes for 'Gossip Girl' at the Empire Hotel in New York. Blake was lighting up the filming set in her sparkling Collette Dinnigan dress. She complemented her darling look with a silky wrap, Judith Leiber crystal clutch and a pair of Christian Louboutin pumps.

With Leighton Meester as they shoot new scenes for 'Gossip Girl'. That's an example of an effortless, yet impressive summery outfit. She teamed her Rag & Bone maxi dress with a pair of Sigerson Morrison T-strap sandals. Personally, I am in favour of maxi dresses- you simply can't go wrong with them.

Bearing in mind that fall has already come and is here to stay, this outfit immediately caught my eye.
I would gladly fill more than half of my wardrobe with nude/beige pieces of clothing if I could. It's my favourite colour- excluding black, that is. Blake accessorized a buttoned coat with a Hermes leather bag and a knitted beret- a great combination for slightly colder days.

Do you like Blake's style? Which outfits are your favourite?
I put up a brand new poll on the right, so you can now vote for the next Modern Fashion Icon. Also, if you have any suggestions as for what I should write about in the nearest future, feel free to drop me a line. I might take some of them into consideration while working on my new posts.

Have a good one,
xoxo Dominika.
